Featured Client: Team Whitaker

Kathryn is the author behind the blog, Team Whitaker.

She is a wife and the mother of five children.
The kids range in age from 10 to 1: Will, John Paul, Anna-Laura, Clare and Luke.
She describes her blog as a place,
"where things are slightly chaotic, a little funny and always entertaining."

How long have you been blogging?
I started the blog in December 2009, so about 3 1/2 years!

What made you decide to start a blog/site?
Initially, I started the blog as a way to keep family and a few friends in the loop about life at our house. When I gave birth to our preemie two years ago, the blog took on a whole new meaning. It certainly kept our friends and family updated on his progress, but it became a critical outlet for me. The blog became very cathartic. Since then, I've started blogging more about life with a preemie, how we've (re)discovered God in the process and life as a mom of five children. There is never a shortage of material. Ever. I can't make this stuff up!

What other blogs or sites inspire you?
I operate my own freelance graphic design business, so I'm always drawn to blogs that inspire me in design (home and graphic) and organization, like: House of Smiths, TomKat Studio, iHeartOrganizing and The Lettered Cottage. I also love a good dose of reality when it comes to marriage and parenting. Motherhood is my vocation and it's always nice to read about other moms - their mistakes and how they work to get it right the next time. Testosterhome is one of my favorites.

Tell us about the design makeover process? How did you choose the colors, fonts and ideas that inspire your personal brand?
My passion for owls has been ongoing, long before they were popular and chic. It just seemed to work - the owls on a branch, reminiscent of a family tree, and the color scheme was vibrant and fun. I think/hope it really speaks to who we are as a family. I had a clear vision for what I wanted. There were a few late nights I spent blog stalking, looking at what I liked and didn't like, what worked on other sites and what didn't. Ultimately, I had my master "I love this" list that I forwarded on to Erin and we used that as a jumping off point. When working with Erin, she was a dream! Seriously. She had a quick turnaround, was always positive about the changes and gave me some options. It was just a grand experience, all around. The feedback from my readers has been so positive.

(Christmas card designs by Kathryn -- new one's will be up on her blog soon!)

How did you find / hear about Designer Blogs?
I searched and searched and searched for the right designer. It was a blog post over at House of Smiths that had me at hello. I clicked over to Designer Blogs and a) really loved the varying designs, b) the price was right and c) the design process was very straightforward and organized.

Anything else you want people to know about you or your blog?
I'm not afraid to be who I am. I love that blogs are so accessible and that someday my children can read about their childhood, as it happened. What a gift!

Thank you Kathryn! Its been so fun getting to know you better! :)
